Get More Sleep Day 1

Get More Sleep Day 1 | In The Next 30 Days

Bears have the right idea. They hibernate through the winter, snug and warm in their caves and cozy spots, and they don’t wake up until Spring comes. Can you imagine how rested they are when they do open their eyes? How good that first stretch feels as they crack open their eyes and realize the snow is melting and the weather is warming. Sure they’re hungry, but they are also well rested, ready to take on the world.

I am so jealous of spring time bears. (Yes, I know how silly this sounds.) But I’ve traded that feeling of being rested and waking refreshed for a to do list a mile long, sleepless and restless nights, and too much caffeine. And people tell me that it’s because I have young children, that when my kiddos start sleeping more, I will too. But my kids are great sleepers, and typically sleep 11.5 hours each night. They’re a convenient excuse, but they aren’t the reason for my sleeplessness.

Here’s what’s typical. Last night, I went to bed at 11:30. I was up at 12:40 to visit the bathroom. Maxwell woke up at 3 something, so I tucked him back in (this is unusual). I was awake then until 4:40 or so. And then I got out of bed at 6:30 because I had plenty to do in the morning quiet. So for these 30 Days, I’m challenging myself to get more sleep, and I want the sleep I do get to be good, heavy, refreshing, bear-like sleep. I owe it to myself to sleep well. It’s so good for my body and overall health; it benefits my mood; it burns calories; and I just plain love to sleep.
