This is my silverware drawer. It’s easily the most used drawer in my kitchen. Cereal and coffee spoons in the morning. Knives for spreading peanut butter and cutting sandwiches at lunch. Serving spoons and forks at dinner time. I keep butter and cheese knives, kid-size utensils, ice cream scoops, and a nut cracker in this drawer. But for all it’s use, this drawer is probably the most organized in my kitchen too. Why? It simply has to be. We have to be able to find everything this drawer holds quickly and easily every day. (Well, I don’t use the nut cracker all that often, but I do know where it is when I need it.)
How I wish the rest of my kitchen and house and life was as organized as this drawer! I wish I knew right where to reach for my iPod when it’s charged, my checkbook when it’s time to play my bills, and sometimes even my running shoes in the mornings. Being organized, right now, sounds as delicious as this peanut butter chocolate pie. I see organization as the first step to a lot of things: productivity, efficiency, cleanliness (this is a big one for Jason too), and peace of mind.
So for These 30 Days, I will work to Get Organized. I’m am going to tackle my physical space: my kitchen (other than my silverware drawer), office space, kids rooms, bedrooms, dressers and closets. You know where I’m thinking of. And all that is feels very important, but I also want to work to organize the less tangible things, like my time or my career. I hope to find some more room. Not room for more things-I have more than I need already-but room to breathe, room to spend with my family, room to create and enjoy my life more.
