I just stumbled on an article on Real Simple‘s Web site that has compiled readers’ cleaning tips. You can check it out here: Best Cleaning Tips and Tricks.
As a busy mom, like tip 24: “During the week, the rooms that matter most to you are the ones to keep neat. If you worry about all the rooms all the time, you’ll spread yourself thin.” This makes sense to me; focus on the busy, used rooms and finish the week with a clean living space that I’ll feel comfortable in and proud of. Focusing on the entire house can make the thought of maintaining the big space more overwhelming. Overwhelmed feelings = wallowing Anna. I know that when I feel like the job is too big, I make excuses. “I’ll wait for Jason.” “I need more time to tackle that.” “I just can’t focus on that right now.” And you know what happens? The mess gets bigger and bigger. And will I take on the problem then? Nope. Not at all. No way Jose.
I’m going to implement this tip into my everyday effort to clean and spruce up.
I also like tip 21, but finding someone else to clean for me feels like cheating.
