Stop Cussing. Start Swearing to Fight Cancer

03/02/15

I'm putting an end to my cussing, and all the money I collect in my swear jar this month goes toward cancer research. | In The Next 30 Days There’s already 50-cents in my Swear Jar. And there would probably be more, but I spent yesterday afternoon at the Children’s Museum. So I was on my very best behavior.

Because I know that jar is going to fill up fast, I decided that money needed to go to a good cause. So on April 1, I’ll tally up my totals, count all my 50-cent deposits, and I’m going to give that total to The Avon Walk to End Breast Cancer. My friend Jessica from Chaos & Love walks every year. I know. She’s a bad ass. And I love that she’s using her powers for good.

Did you know that a woman has a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer in her lifetime? (Source)
Did you know that every 3 minutes there’s a diagnosis of invasive breast cancer? (Source)
Did you know that approximately 230,480 women and 2,140 men will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year? (Source)
Did you know that the proceeds raised by the Avon 39 “funds a comprehensive network of programs and services dedicated to serving breast cancer patients and their families”?

A lot of you have told me that you felt like you needed to work on your cussing. That I’m not alone and the struggle is real. So I’m challenging you too. Are you up to it?

Commit to stop swearing for the entire month of March.
Keep a swear jar, just in case you slip up.
At the end of the month, donate your money to Jess and the Avon 39: The Walk to End Breast Cancer (or any charity that you support).

Simple right? Are you up to the challenge? Leave a comment below to tell me that you’re playing along. There will be opportunities to share our progress through out the month, so keep checking back! And be sure to share with all your friends because this challenge is all about community and support.

I am in. Told lady at work my friend’s blog In the Next 30 days was having a stop cursing month and I was signing up for it. This was after we had both said a bad word about work. She wished me luck!

Ha! It’s such an easy habit to get stuck in. I keep remembering my high school English teacher who told me that cussing is a sign of a limited vocabulary. So maybe I need a good thesaurus. 😉
