Motivational | A Little Self Love and My Awesome List

Self love-motivation-quote

Do you have an Awesome List? I honestly didn’t know what one was until my longtime (we’re talking like since preschool) friend Hatton sent me a link on Twitter the other day. Hatton blogs at Chattie Hattie, has amazing taste, takes beautiful photographs, and is my play date for Sunday (Yay!). The link she sent took me to a post on The Brighter Side of Life that suggests everyone write their own Awesome List.

You see, an Awesome List is all about self love and recognizing and celebrating the bits and pieces of yourself that are totally awesome. We all have these beautiful, amazing, unique, creative, perfect pieces, and instead of reveling in them, we smush them to the bottom and see our faults first. The cracks are what too often shine through. So I’m writing my own Awesome List as a celebration of me. It’s a reminder of all the characteristics-physical and not-so physical-that make Anna awesome, and it’s proof that “No one else is just like you [err, Me].”

Anna’s Awesome List (in no particular order)
  • I have this uncanny ability to remember song lyrics. I hear it once, I know the chorus. Two times, and I probably know the verses too. And I like to sing very loudly in my car.
  • I make the world’s greatest cheesecake. I’m not even joking. Come one over, and I’ll make you one.
  • I do my very best creative thinking at night, in bed, in the dark. I try to write notes of what I come up with, but I admit that I can’t always read what I wrote the next morning.
  • Blue eyes. They’re awesome.
  • I make my kids hold my hands in parking lots, and I know they hate that. So we make it more fun by naming which character from Thomas the Tank Engine that we are, and then we make choo-choo sounds all the way through the parking lot. Once, they held my hands all the way to their classrooms at school.
  • My smile.
  • I’m damn curious about most everything. I ask questions, I look for answers. I ask more questions. I love learning.
  • I have skills. I’m an amazing writer, a good designer, and an improving photographer. I love all three, and they all find a very happy home right here. Awesome, right?
  • I look for the good in people and situations first. Call it optimism. Call it rose-colored glasses. It makes me feel good.
  • My kind of crazy, wavy, but not curly, and sometimes frizzy hair.
  • I have piano player fingers. I don’t play the piano, but my fingers are long and graceful.
  • Listening is my super skill.
  • I love big and crazy and completely and with every inch of me.

Your turn. Hatton is going to write her own Awesome List. And I think you should too. It’s all about loving yourself and being yourself. That’s pretty important, right?

So tell me, what will the first thing on your Awesome List be?

Hi Anna, what a beautiful post! I LOVE your Awesome List - such amazing things to celebrate! I’ll have to try the “Thomas the Tank Engine” trick with my 2 1/2-year-old… maybe he’ll be less grumpy about me holding his hand. ;) I too look for the good in people and situations first, and I love that about me! Plus I’m really silly/goofy sometimes… why take life seriously all the time?

Thanks so much for linking to my post - it’s much appreciated! So happy to know about your blog.

Thank you Christine for the visiting and the inspiration! Life is more fun when you can smile. That I’m sure of. And that Thomas trick totally works!

I love this! I write a Great List each week which is all about being grateful for the small things in life each week. I’m going to start an “overall” awesome list now too! Ps. I have the song lyrics talent too! If only I wasn’t tone deaf…….

I think this is such a wonderful idea and I like the items you put on your list… and now I am curious about this cheesecake!!! :) I don’t have an awesome list, but a couple of months ago, I made what I call a Reverse Bucket List… it’s definitely related to an awesome list, haha. It’s like its cousin or something!
