(Have you read these books to your kids? If not, you totally should.)
Today, I participated in a Read Across America event at Julia’s preschool. The “annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading,” and while it’s supposed to happen on March 2, Julia’s school just moved it to today. So I was one of easily 50 parents to meet their preschooler in the church gym connected to the school. At exactly 11:35, Mrs. Cindy, the school’s director, counted down, and all us parents read books to our children at the same time in the same space. I took our collection of Sandra Boynton books because both kids love the rhyming and repetition and because Max could chew on one while I read a different one. The Belly Button Book was read twice. (“Bebo!”)
I love that Julia loves to read, and I’d do anything to make sure she, and her classmates, love to read for their lifetimes. Seeing reading celebrated and embraced in such a wonderfully exciting way is a good start.
