Back to school time means new clothes, supplies, and shoes. But shoes can be so cookie cutter, can’t they? Girl shoes are white with pink or pink with white. And boy shoes are blue or slathered with characters. But why not break out of the norm with these cute color block canvas shoes. You can paint your own to match your style and make your shoes (or your kid’s shoes) one of a kind.
Here’s what you need:
- Canvas Shoes
(I found these at Wal-Mart.) - Acrylic Craft Paint
- Paint Brush
And really, you do what you think you do, paint the shoes where ever and how ever you like. I followed the seams for this pair. It was simple simple. But if you want more elaborate, then I used painter’s tape on a pair on canvas kicks for Julia to make some stripes. (She picked the colors and pattern. They’re wonderfully hideous.) Be ready to for several layers of paint. The first layer sucks the paint in (these shoes took three layers).
Have fun in your one-of-a-kind footwear!

These are awesome. Love this idea. I’ll be looking for these shoes at Wal-mart.
Hi there! I’m visiting from SITS! I blog over at The Southern Institute, a creative community! These are awesome! Will you link up with my linky party, Creative Me, tomorrow? We’d love to have you. I also have a virtual lemonade stand going on right now to raise money for clean water in Africa (http://thesoutherninstitute.com/2012/08/its-lemonaid-day-the-southern-institute.html/). I hope to see you there! Have a fabulous weekend!
Jenny
Thanks for the visit and the invite, Jenny. I’d love to link up with you!
And now I’m off to check out your site. Happy weekend to you as well.
I simply love these. They’re ridiculously cute. (Although, full disclosure: Mine would’ve come out more like Julia’s, I fear…)
No fear! Julia has been rocking her shoes like it’s her job. I think it’s all about owning your fashion, and to be quite honest, my 3 year old has so much more confidence than I do.
These turned out so cute, love it! I’m coming from Saturday Sharefest.Glad to have found your blog.
I love the concept of your blog! This particular post is a fantastic idea that can also help you take shoes you’ve been wearing this summer into the fall. Thanks for the post!
Showing you love from SITS.

Thanks for stopping by. And you’re right. You could have them in all different colors. I’m thinking of painting a pair in coral, and green, and burnt orange, and . . .
