The weather around here turned into winter overnight. We were in short-sleeved Halloween costumes on Friday for trick-or-treat, and by Saturday morning I was pulling on a sweater and reading reports of snow in my Facebook feed. I know it’s November, but I honestly just wasn’t quite ready.
I love my slippers and warm clothes, but when I’m cold the one thing I want more than any other is a fantastic and hot cup of coffee. It’s the perfect cold-weather beverage. Simple. Versatile. Caffeinated.
Here’s the thing, though. I’m such a coffee novice. I’ve been drinking it for a while now, but I don’t know where my beans are from or which blends are my favorites. And I use a Keurig, which I know doesn’t scream coffee connoisseur. And I take my coffee with cream or sometimes butter, but what else is out there. What options do I need to explore?
I’m really great at loving what’s in my cup, but I want to know more. And why do I like what I do?
So for these 30 Days, I’m going to to be drinking all the coffee. I’ll be trying all kinds of new brews and recipes and learning all that I can. Call it a great excuse to curl up with my mug and a warm blanket. Or call it a wonderful way to welcome in winter. Either way, I’ll be enjoying these 30 Days and learning all I can about what’s in my mug.

This might be my favorite 30 days yet! I love coffee!
I use an Aeropress ($25 on amazon) with frothed milk and Mexican vanilla. We used to buy flavorbean coffee but switched to buying the starbucks bagged coffee because you can get it in the grocery store.

And now I’m on Amazon looking up Aeropress because that sounds AH-mazing.
We swear by our burr grinder. Perfect freshly ground coffee every time! Also, have you seen this Portlandia skit “You’re drinking it wrong”? http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/videos/youre-drinking-coffee-wrong.html Pretty funny!
Oh. Grinding my own. That’s something I’ve never done, but totally should. You’ve always been so coffee smart. 🙂
i drink only decaff, sand that makes it especially hard to find full flavor. have tried all the fancy coffee makers, delonghi, krupps, keurig. now i am onto nespresso and i like the expresso lungo (double expresso , i think?!?). show us how thisis supposed to be done, anna!
hey, mariah, how are you feeling?
Hi Kathy! I am feeling pretty good all things considered. Just 6 weeks to go!
Yay! You’re in the home stretch!
I’ll do my very best, Kathy, but of course I’m going to call you and all your super expertise when I have questions!

Oooooh, I can’t wait to follow this series of discovery. I’m always wanting to try and fall more in love with at-home brewing.

Years ago I bought a $10 espresso machine and brew a dark roast from coastal coffee roasters in sc. The roast is Dual Core Espresso and it is jet fuel that tastes amazing! Flavored with homemade syrups and steamed milk it is perfection.
