Sometimes these quotes kind of hit me. This one did.
“A letter is a soul, so faithful an echo of the speaking voice that to the sensitive it is among the richest treasures of love.” –Honoré de Balzac
Letters are intimate. They create this instant connection between the writer and receiver, like whispered secrets fall out of sealed envelopes. I think all handwritten notes show love, especially today when typing and sending e-mails is so easy and instant. But I’m going to try to remember that my letters echo my speaking voice, as Balzac says. I want the letters I set out into the world to be that personal. Those are the letters that will make a difference.
Last night at the #KindWords Twitter party (were you there?) MoreLoveLetters tweeted “Inject your personality into the love letters. Make someone feel like they are finding a piece of your soul.” I know now, that if I can put my soul into a letter, that’s when it will do the most good, no matter who picks it up.
