Does anything smell better than lavender? I doubt it. But more than just smelling good, lavender’s aroma is known to be calming, soothing, and it’s often used as a homeopathic sleep aid. So this week, I made myself Lavender Pillow Inserts so that I can reap the benefits of this herb all night long.
I’ve said it before, but truly this is the easiest DIY ever.
Here’s what you need.
- Some dried lavender buds. I found mine at a local health food store, but you could use these.
- Cotton Muslin Bags with a drawstring, just like these.
Carefully spoon the lavender into the drawstring bags. And when it’s about three-quarters full, pull the bag tight, and tie it in a knot. Slip the bag into your pillow case. Simple as that. All night long, the lavender will be a gentle reminder to relax and calm and, most importantly, sleep well.
Here’s the beautiful thing, though, these lavender bags can be used in more than just the bedroom. Try them as a sachet in your unmentionable’s drawer or in the dryer to make your laundry smell awesome. And when the scent is gone, you can sprinkle the lavender on your carpet and then vacuum it up to make your room smell herbal.

What a great idea, I love lavender!! Would make fantastic gifts too.

Yes! Shh. Don’t tell, but I made extra for stocking stuffers.
What a beautiful idea. I love lavender and putting these little inserts in a pillow is just perfect. It should also help calm the kiddos

You are so right, Bea. I didn’t even think of sharing with my kiddos, but this might be the perfect thing when they’re tightly wound.
Thanks for visiting.
