Lately my house has been a disaster area. We’re talking a cluttered, dusty, dirty mess. And it doesn’t matter how often I remind myself how nice a clean house feels, or all the lessons I learned when I did my very first 30 Days to clean my house. The place is trashed. So shortcuts and hacks that will help make my life easier are always welcome. And that’s what made me think of the cleaning caddy pin.
This specific cleaning caddy is from HGTV and Sabrina Soto, the host of High/Low Project, and has been repinned over 1,000 times. But what drew me to it is that it gives a list of specifics to put into your cute caddy to make sure you’re super efficient as you move from room to room cleaning as you go. You know, because cleaning should be just that simple.
HGTV and Sabrina Soto’s list is how I found myself spinning slow circles in the cleaning supplies aisle of Wal-Mart this morning looking for grout brushes and powered cleaner for my tub. When I started, I thought I’d use the same specific brands and items that HGTV listed. After all, that’s what the pin is for, right? But I as I scoured the shelves for Method Squirt + Mop hard floor cleaner (never found it) and Bon Ami powder cleanser (um, no, not this either), I learned Pinterest Lesson Number 1: Be Flexible.
I desperately need to remember that Pinterest has this amazing collection of projects, ideas, and hacks. And I love that. But there are a kerbillion different factors that make any project I tackle different from Sabrina Soto’s projects: geography, stores we shop in, time of year we did our shopping, you get the idea. Not to mention that I just don’t like the way some cleaners smell. So I have to be flexible with any project I tackle here and know that everything doesn’t have to be exact to work well.
I walked out of my big-box store with a shower caddy over flowing with cleaning supplies that do the same things as HGTV’s list, even they’re not the same brands.
In these 30 Days, I am going to rock my caddy to work on cleaning my mega mess of a house. I’ll let you know if it’s worthwhile at the end of the month. I do have to tell you, though, tonight my kitchen is cleaner than it has been in a long time, and I like having my cleaning supplies all in one place. Of course, the fact that it matches my blue kitchen doesn’t hurt either.

I bought a caddy for a gift basket giveaway that my husband is donating to a car show and I thought how useful it would be at home for this exact same thing!

Love your tips for trying out things you find on Pinterest. I have a caddy that stays under the sink, but it does make a lot of sense to move it with me around the house. 🙂
