I love candles on a holiday table. The glow of a candle provides this warmth that feels so welcoming. And to me, the table isn’t quite set until the candles are lit. So I put together these simple Thanksgiving votives for my Turkey Day table. They were simple, took less than 20 minutes to put together, and make a nice impact.
I filled the glass votives about three-quarters full with dried yellow split peas. You could use any bean really. These were on sale for 70¢ a bag today at the grocery store. I put in the candle and then held it in place while I filled in the space around the candle with more split peas. The golden color is lovely feels just like Thanksgiving. Don’t you think? Plus, the possibilities for this project are endless. You could use a large glass vase and use several candles in one container. You could use several layers of different beans to make a more dramatic centerpiece. Or you could match the color of the bean to the holiday. Red kidney beans and dried green lentils at Christmas time, maybe.
