My kids got dressed in real clothes today. And we went to a movie, because that’s what you do when you’re not quite ready for school yet, but you’ve been fever free for well over the doctor-recommended 24-hour window . My kids like Penguins of Madagascar well enough, but they really loved the photo booth in the lobby.
I didn’t put any money in. But I did have my iPhone ready.
Today I’m grateful for outings. For empty movie theaters. For giggles. For goofiness. For these smiles. These healthy, happy smiles.
They were exhausted after a couple of hours out of the house, and they both crashed in the car on the way back across the bridges. And as I drove, I remembered that little things are big things for me. And this is a lesson I have to relearn every few months, but it’s one I never tire of.
And these smiles, the first I’ve seen in days, have taught me that the things I should be the most grateful for, the moments that hold the most gratitude are those that come without fuss or forethought.
