This time last year I was at my wits end. I was stressed out and angry and probably a little depressed. I was fighting my children, fighting the summertime, fighting for space of my own. And I wasn’t winning any of my battles. In fact, I was drowning in my own self struggle. So what did I do? I decided my 30 Days of last August had to be all about surviving the end of summer. It was about filling summer with memories for my kids and doing all those fun summertime things like swimming and eating watermelon barefoot. I’m ambitious like that.
And while we did have fun, I didn’t work my way out of the constant fighting I felt. I didn’t end the month feeling happier or accomplished. And I was glad to have space and quiet to myself after I dropped the kids off at their first day of school. I celebrated the silence.
I really don’t want to feel that way. And I have recognized that I am a stronger, happier, better person when I take time out for myself, when I work on me a little bit too, when I give to myself even one tenth of what I give to the people around me.
So for these 30 Days, I am going to focus on meditation. Every Day. For at least 15 minutes. I am going to force myself to stop and fill my bucket back up before I start back into life again. Some days I might make it longer than my 15 minute goal, but 15 minutes is a good chunk of time to stop and shift my focus. I don’t take much time or space for myself these days, and I am hoping this quarter hour of meditation will shift my frame of mind away from the negative to make room for something much more positive.
I’m excited for this one, guys. I’m excited to focus on my insides, my mental-ness. I’m excited to do 30 Days of slowing down and looking for what’s good and right. And maybe I’m most looking forward to seeing the positive difference my meditation makes in my life.

Meditation can be wonderful. Just be careful that you don’t fall asleep!
30 days of something… I need to ponder what I can do.

Yes! When I tried to meditate back in January during my 30 Days of cleansing, I kept falling asleep. This time around, I think I sit somewhere that’s comfortable, but not quite so comfy that I doze off. It will be a challenge, for sure!
What a wonderful challenge, I’ll be interested to hear how it goes! This time of year is always hard for me, too. It’s hot and all the usual summer activities are starting to sound repetitive. Plus, fall is my favorite season, so it’s hard not to want to jump ahead.

Yes Meryl! It is like there is nothing more to do, of if there is something to do, then all my motivation was exhausted at the beginning of summer. I hope that meditation allows for some extra inspiration in the 11th hour of summer. Thank you for following along!
I LOVE this month’s project, Anna. Meditation is a beautiful thing. I am anxious to follow your progress this month and can’t wait to see what you found about walking meditations. ~ Bobbi

The Walking Meditation is a great idea, and I *think* I’m going to incorporate a video blog about it. There was a great BlogHer session about video that has my brain churning. But thank you for the initial inspiration!
What a wonderful idea. Glad to have found you from Kludgy Mom’s Facebook post. My 30 days would probably involve home cooking. Striving to not eat out for 30 days for our family of 5. I’m on a pretty good cooking streak so far.

I am in the last week of a month long no processed foods challenge. It’s been so hard sometimes but I feel great! I am really missing some foods like Diet Coke and candy but it was good to challenge myself. I never would have thought I could do this long without caffeine before. Good luck on your challenge!

Good for you Twingle! A month with no processed foods is an AWESOME accomplishment! I met Lisa Leake of 100 Days of Real Food at BlogHer a few weeks ago, and, like you, she’s amazing in her enthusiasm and commitment. So will you continue with your streak of no processed foods? Have you decided yet? I’d love to hear more.
