During my 30 Days of Pinterest, I talked a lot about the social media. I covered Pintrest Etiquette, How to Create Awesome Pinnable Images with PicMonkey, some awesome yellow inspiration, and more. But today, let’s talk about something a little different.
Successful Pinnable Content is Useful Content.
When it comes to being successful on Pinterest, this single rule has been monumental. Pinterest is my greatest traffic generator, and we bloggers are living in a Pinterest age, and we need to embrace it or get left behind. The most successful of all my pins on Pinterest are those that represent useful posts, posts that are applicable in every day life. Recipes? Yes. Crafts? Of course. But also think about top 10 lists, style summaries, household tips, beauty advice, photography help, and more. It’s all content that people need.
I know that not every post I write is going to blow up on Pinterest. And not every post I write is going to be an awesome craft or a new recipe with beautiful photos and pinnable images. (I just don’t have time for that many tutorials.) But if I can think toward making more of my posts useful and pinnable, then I’m succeeding.
And of course this is a big reason behind the Adventures in Pinterest series. Want to know if a pin is successful? This month, my 4-year-old daughter and I tackled this pin from Club Chica Circle.
I love Pauline and Lynnee who are the brains behind Club Chica Circle. They’re crafting geniuses. And the fact they include their tween girls in their projects is double awesome. My Julia has recently given up her afternoon “quiet time” in her room. To be fair, I was so lucky she played along for so long. But I do miss time to get work done or make a phone call. Instead, Julia and I have gotten crafty, and these nail polish hair clips were a perfect afternoon project.
Simple materials. All you need are some hair clips and your massive supply of nail polish. Bobby pins don’t stay in Julia’s hair for long, so I used bigger clips. As long as you find metal ones, you’ll be all set.
I clipped the clips to paper to minimize the mess, but there’s not much to this craft. Just get painting. On dark clips, then be ready to do several coats of nail polish. The nail polish dries quickly, so there’s not much waiting.
We painted stripes, polka dots, solids, smears. There was a little of everything, which was so fun for the Julia and me. And now we have some customized and super cute clips for Julia to wear and maybe to give my niece for Christmas. Win win. This was one of those hit-it-out-of-the-park pins. Easy and fun.
Those periwinkle ones with pink stripes are my very favorite. But I’m glad for an afternoon with my girl and a chance to show her she’s so capable of making something so cool. Plus, she will now let me pull back her hair, and it’s so awesome to see her face again.
