There’s been a snow and ice storm here in Charleston, South Carolina. School has been canceled. The bridges have been closed. Jim Cantore has been in town. And you know the weather is serious when he shows up. We’ve been socked in and bundled up. And I’ve come to realize a couple of things.
First, I’m not made for cold weather. A couple of seconds outside in snowy weather and I’m looking for a cup of hot chocolate and a warm blanket. The second thing I’ve come to realize is that I’ve gotten used to being very still. And that’s not a good thing.
I’ve been at my desk working on web sites and blogs and business plans and brainstorming. And I’ve been on the couch to watch movies and snuggle with my kiddos. And I’ve been, well, unmoved. I do get to yoga, and I run my errands. but I’m not nearly active enough, and I’m sure that I haven’t been anywhere close to my recommended 10,000 steps at day for a while now.
And I feel it. I’m always tried. I’m sore. I’m slow in body and mind. I am irritable and short. All I just don’t feel good. And I want to. I know that diet and exercise are so essential to my feeling well. I don’t know why they’re the first things to slip when I get busy or distracted.
So for these 30 Days, I’m going to work hard to take my 10,000 steps a day. I’ll be walking the dog and the kids or the dogs and the kids. I’ll be parking at the end of the parking lot and working hard to move when before I would be sitting. It might mean more yoga or waking up earlier. It will probably mean a lot more time out in the cold. (But, thankfully, I shouldn’t have to deal with any more snow).
It will be a busy busy month, which are always the best kind. I’ll be sharing my day-to-day photos and happenings on Facebook, G+, and Instagram. I’m supporting Wendy and World Cancer Day early next week. And look for my Adventures in Pinterest on February 28th, of course.

I am the SAME WAY about cold weather!! How did we survive in WV!? Lol. What are you using to track your steps?? I’m thinking about one of the bracelet things.

Funny you should ask, Hatton. I’ve had a Jawbone Up, a wrist activity tracker, for about a year now. And today, on the first day of my 10,000 steps challenge, it has decided not to sync with my phone any more. *sigh*
I will say that it’s a pretty awesome piece of equipment. It tracts steps, activity, sleep, and even food, if you enter it.
I’m glad I found this on Pinterest. I will join you! Sound fun. Even though this polar vortex is going on I am up for the challenge.
I’d LOVE to have your company! But bundle up in your Polar Vortex. That weather is no joke!
I had like 3 challenges in mind for Feb and yet it’s the 3rd and I haven’t started any of them! #Fail
