Early last week, this tiny Carolina Wren flew into my tall kitchen window. I checked on him almost immediately, and he was very still and on the walkway around the side of my house. By the time I grabbed my camera, he was standing up, and although his eyes stayed closed and his foot looked painful, he was clearly healing himself and preparing to fly. He let me get very close, even standing directly above him. But I was careful not to touch him, and as soon as he was able, he met my eyes, turned his head, and few on the edge of my fence, a little bit away. I’m glad he bounced back so quickly and glad he let me take his photo. This week’s Focus 52 prompt is Remember This. And while I can’t compare his struggle to the service men and women we remember on Veterans Day, I will remember this guy for the tiny battle he won before he flew 0ff.
